St.Mary's School, a mission school of
the Church of England was established in 1912 in the then green and salubrious neighbourhood of Weld
Road, Kuala Lumpur, housed in an estate manager's bungalow of a former coffee plantation. A complex of dedicated
school buildings developed over the years in Middle Road, which later came to be known as Jalan Tengah. This dear and caring
school soon became a school of choice, providing quality education for girls in the Klang Valley synonymous with strong traditions
of service, dedication and excellence.
In the 1950s, this area developed and
became known as the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur where gracious homes with large gardens rapidly disappeared,
replaced by high-rise commercial buildings. These new architectural giants surrounded and dwarfed the school resulting in
an unfriendly and congested environment for the students.
For these reasons the Anglican
Diocese of West Malaysia decided to relocate the school to a more conducive environment that can also cater to the
future needs of the students and also retain and fulfill its vision of educating girls of high caliber, integrity and skills
so they can SERVE as responsible citizens of our country.
St.Mary's School is so honoured that
the two most recent ' first ladies ' of Malaysia, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali and our late Datin
Sri Endon Mahmood were both from St.Mary's School and are fine models of our School Motto " I SERVE "
This relocation was successfully completed
in 1998 and the Jalan Tengah buildings were officially closed and all its facilities, staff and students
moved to new and modern buildings and grounds at Taman Intan Baiduri in Selayang.
The School held a successful FAREWELL
at Jalan Tengah and the sad goodbye to the buildings, the grounds and general ambience began.
